India has blocked 17,000 WhatsApp accounts linked to Southeast Asian cyber criminals targeting Indians through digital fraud. This initiative, led by Team I4C and the Department of Telecom, aimed to disrupt offshore criminal networks. The accounts were involved in scams, including impersonating law enforcement officials to create fear and pressure victims into compliance. Prime Minister Modi has warned against such scams, emphasizing that no legitimate agency conducts interrogations via phone.
