The Karnataka commercial taxes department has clarified that small vendors in Bengaluru must continue to pay Goods and Services Tax (GST) regardless of payment methods, including cash and digital transactions. Notices were issued to unregistered businesses with UPI transactions exceeding Rs 20 lakh for services or Rs 40 lakh for goods, necessitating GST registration. The department emphasized that only taxable turnover will be taxed, and officials are available to assist traders with compliance. Currently, 98,915 traders are registered under the composition scheme, allowing them to pay a reduced tax rate.
